THE main rail line through Teignmouth was closed in both directions yesterday after a second mudslip at the cliff on the seawall, threatening the track.

As the Post went to press, Network Rail said it was hoping that part of the line at least might be re-opened today.

The collapse began on Tuesday, but was contained by a steel fence protecting the track, enabling single line working to be introduced.

Two-way traffic was briefly re-instated on Wednesday, but as more debris came down the cliff – between Sprey Point and Parson Tunnel – engineers decided on Wednesday night it was too dangerous for trains to pass, and stopped all traffic.
