NEW parking restrictions are being proposed along a busy Dawlish road.

Highways bosses are recommending no waiting at any time along sections of Elm Grove Road which as well as being a residential street, is also home to the town’s secondary school and a primary school.

Congestion has been a contentious issue for many years particularly at school drop off and pick up times.

The proposal is for no waiting at any time is specifically for the south-west side from a point 19 metres south-east of its junction with Oak Park Road and in a northwesterly direction to a point nine metres north-west of that junction.

Other roads earmarked among the proposals for no waiting restrictions in Dawlish are Stockton Hill, West Cliff Road and Plantation Terrace.

Devon County Council says the ‘restrictions are being proposed to resolve minor local issues that have been reported to the council and considered as part of the Teignbridge Highways and Traffic Orders Committee annual local waiting restrictions programme’.

It says they are to avoid danger, prevent the likelihood of any danger arising and help crossing the roads, either by pedestrians or traffic.

Other reasons are to improve visibility and prevent obstructive parking.

While there has been some support for the plans, there are fears the move will push the problems further along to other roads.

Some drivers say getting out onto of the roads around Elm Grove Road is a ‘nightmare’.

It is hoped the proposals will ease some of the congestion and obstructive parking in the streets concerned.
