Newton Abbot and District Musical Comedy Society reported at their annual meeting on another busy and successful year.

The year started with the comedy horror-rock musical Little Shop of Horrors. It was something different from their more traditional musicals, but proved a huge success.

Soon after followed the ever-popular family pantomime Robinson Crusoe, which was jam-packed with lively musical numbers, colourful costumes and, of course, traditional pantomime comedy that got audiences going right from the start.

The production year finished with a Disney classic, Beauty and the Beast Jr, which was performed by the society’s junior section, Newts. It was a box office sell-out, which only shows how this group is going from strength to strength.

At the annual meeting, the Joy Adams memorial awards were presented to Andie Woolway and the junior cup was presented to Callum Beavis.

Tickets are now on sale for the society’s forthcoming production of Calamity Jane, which opens at the Alexandra Theatre, Newton Abbot, on Monday, October 5.

Newton Abbot and District Musical Comedy Society will be holding auditions on Monday, September 7 at The Green Rooms, Newton Abbot.
