JOHN?FISHER, of Beverley Gardens, Ashburton, writes:
I read with interest the leaked proposals to revitalise Newton Abbot’s Market Square MDA September 9, and noted that part of this was to relocate the Alexandra Cinema.
I remember my first visit in the mid ’60s with an Army pal who lived locally. We sat in the balcony, in the days before it became a multi-screen complex, and my pleasure at its atmosphere.
If I go to the cinema today, it is only to the Alexandra, where you don’t need a bank loan for the entrance fee or a mortgage for the snacks.
One must not forget that it is a theatre with annual productions.
Reading this article, I am minded of one of my favourite Peter Sellers comedies ‘The Smallest Show on Earth’. Just look how that ended.
