YOUTH theatrical group NEWTS wanted to do something extra special this year to help lift spirits in the local community so they have been out delivering Christmas hampers, including a DVD of their Christmas variety concert, to some of the local care homes.
The Newton Abbot and District Musical Comedy Society’s youth group, NEWTS, performed their annual Christmas concert at Abbotsbury Church.
Claire Holden, society committee member and director of the youth group, said: ‘Due to government guidelines we were unable to perform to an audience as normal, so with help from Waggle Events and funding from Newton Abbot Rotary, we were able to film our concert.
‘It was a wonderful evening and really got us in the festive spirit.
‘ASDA have kindly offered to support our project by offering to donate some goodies for our hampers.
‘It was heartwarming (and emotional) to watch the children perform again after such a long time, they all performed brilliantly and just sparkled.
‘It was a wonderful way to end what has been such a challenging year.
‘I am so passionate about keeping arts within our community, it brings joy, improves wellbeing and brings people together.
‘It was a wonderful to be able to deliver our Christmas hampers and concert DVD to five local care homes in our community, helping to spread some happiness to those who have been left feeling very isolated this year.’
‘A big thank you to Two Sisters Dance and Theatre Arts and ASDA for helping us put these amazing hampers together.’
On Saturday the NEWTS team paid a special visit to Brambledown Nursing Home where Mid-Devon Advertiser’s Steve Pope took this picture.
Emma Carter, activities coordinator, at Brambledown nursing home, said: ‘On behalf of Brambledown Nursing Home Id like to thank Clare Holden and the local junior theatre group (NEWTS) for their kind gesture today. What a beautiful hamper to receive.
‘After such a difficult year I know how much our residents will appreciate it. We cant wait to see your wonderful show on DVD!
‘Thank you so much and merry Christmas to you all,’ added Emma.
The NEWTS team delivered their festive treats to: Brambledown Nursing Home, Lake view Care Home, Mount Pleasant Care Home, Doneraile Residential Home and Meadowside Residential Home.
