Newton Abbot Athletics Club had three teams in the annual Erme Valley Harriers' 4 x 2.5-mile road relays, starting from the Ivybridge Rugby Club and doing a circuit on the undulating country lanes.
On a fine evening, Newton's U18s ran well and were first U18 male team, finishing 18th overall out of 91 teams.
A storming first leg by Adam Caunter, recording the fastest U18 leg of 14m 18s, set them up. with the good work being maintained by Iain Tinkler 16m 01s, then brother Graeme 16 16s handing over to Sam Fice who kept them going with a fine run of 14m 48s, giving a total time of 61m 23s.
Newton's senior male team took 41st place with lead off Kieran Dore 16m 15s, Carl Bennett 18m 07s, Ken Tinkler 18m 09s and Adrian Bailey 14m 57s, while the ladies' team placed 68th, with Amanda Rowlings clocking 19m 07s, Jeanne Smith 19m 46s, Jo Gale 18m 56s and Nikki Hill 16m.46s.
