Newton Abbot AC young athletes had a great day of competition in their defence of the annual Pearson Cup track and field fixture against South Devon AC, Torbay AC and Dartmouth AC.
The match was hosted by South Devon AC at Churston Grammar School sports field, and although the strong wind and occasional shower made things difficult, the youngsters produced many fine performances.
Newton had 27 athletes ranging from eight to twelve years old, with everyone playing their part in giving the team victory and retaining cup with a total of 296 points.
Runners-up were South Devon with 280, with Dartmouth 230 third and Torbay 196 fourth.
Individually, Newton won 13 gold medals, ten silver and eight bronze, along with two relay golds.
The club also had three of the best athlete overall age group winners – U11 girl Rebecca Tinkler took gold in the long jump, 75m sprint and 600m; U11 boy Ryan Dabbs won golf in the vortex throw, 75m sprint and 600m, and U13 girl Jessica Dobson golds in 100m sprint, shot and 800m.
U10 girls – Olivia Dobson silver in the vortex throw, Harriet Hebbes sixth in the 75m final and Martha Head ninth in the 600m; U10 boys – Jack Hawtin gold in the vortex throw; Aidan Scotte silver in the vortex throw and bronze in the 75m sprint; Tom Rutley silver in the 600m; Seb Ford bronze 600m; James Penny fourth vortex throw; Sean Fitzpatrick eighth vortex throw; David Fallshaw eighth in the 600m.
U11 girls – Izzy Fallshaw bronze long jump; U11 boys – Tom Johnson eighth 75m sprint.
U13 girls – Fiona Clenahan gold long jump, bronze shot; Jessica Prior silvers in the 100m, shot and high jump; Celina Meek silver 800m; Dominique Ford bronze high jump; Mollie Daly fifth long jump; Lucy Hawtin sixth 800m; Amy Newnham eighth shot; Rosa Sell ninth long jump.
U13 boys – Luke Rutley golds in long jump and 800m, bronze 100m; Will Hancox silvers in 100m, long jump and 800m; Matthew Penny bronze shot; Scott Dabbs sixth long jump.
