THERE are no manhunts for people who have escaped prison while serving a custodial sentence, Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed in response to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.
Neither are there any active investigations for people who have escaped prison whilst on remand, the FOI request reveals.
However, Devon and Cornwall Police did confirm that it has seven individuals who were released on license, whom the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) have since contacted the Force to ask that it locate and return them to prison as they have breached the terms of their release license.
There are only two active prisons in the Devon and Cornwall Police area, both in Devon, namely HMP Exeter and HMP Channing’s Wood.
So, compared to other areas of the country, the Force’s numbers are generally low for prison-related offences that require investigation.
