BUCKFASTLEIGH'S Whitecleave Quarry is again at the centre of growing public concern after operator Gilpin Demolition lodged a pre-Christmas application to use 10,000 square metres of the site for storage use.

The move comes just weeks after Devonport-based MVV lost its appeal against industrial waste disposal and processing plans at the contentious Plymouth Road location.

Some residents have complained that because of the Christmas and new year holidays the period for public response to the application has been reduced.

They want more time to consider the proposals which some fear may result in the quarry being used as a dump.
