Richard Younger-Ross' volunteer stint behind the microphone at Tower Sound, Newton Abbot Hospital's own radio station, has brought back memories for the Teignbridge MP. 'It was rather like riding a bike again in that I was a volunteer presenter here eight or nine years ago,' he said. 'It was very nice to go back and find a newly equipped studio, sit at the console and play some music that I hope was appreciated.' His 90 minutes on air was part of his contribution to national volunteers' week and featured classics from the 50s and 60s, not, perhaps, what he would choose to play at home. 'I'm currently sorting through my old vinyl collection and have had the chance to listen to some fairly obscure folk music from across the world as well as some decent rock,' he said. 'What I played on Tower Sound was meant to entertain the patients and certainly didn't represent my own desert island discs.' Mr Younger-Ross failed to reveal whether his own vinyl was being replaced with more contemporary technology, most appropriately an MP3 perhaps, but he did thank staff at Tower Sound and Teignbridge Volunteer Services for all their help and guidance.
