THE number of seatbelt offences recorded by Devon & Cornwall Police in the last twelve months has ben revealed by a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.

Between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025, the force processed 5,612 seatbelt offences, the FOI request shows.

And during that time, 1,272 ‘Your Belt Your Life’ courses were completed.

There were 103 collisions where parties were recorded as being injured as a result of not wearing a seatbelt between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2024.

It is a legal requirement in the United Kingdom to wear a seat belt if one is fitted.

Drivers can be fined up to £500 for not wearing a seat belt.
