A FAWN is thought to have survived a bashing it took from a car in Newton Abbot.

Police were alerted after a motorist reporting being in collision with the little chap in Ringslade Road, Highweek, on Tuesday.

The local driver contacted police to say the creature was lying injured in the road after straying in front of his Vauxhall.

The accident happened just after 6am near the old Highweek social club. The driver was said to be ‘shaken up’ by the incident.

A police spokesman said officers attended the scene to find no sign of the baby deer.

It was hoped the injured nipper had revived from the shock and scampered off into the woods.
