Plans for a retirement complex on the outskirts of Bovey Tracey have hit the buffers again after a public inquiry went against the developer.

A principal flaw in the plan, the inspector said, was the site's remote location and lack of transport links.

Archstone Lifestyle Homes Ltd wanted to construct 24 homes for the over-55s and a 50-bed nursing home on a two-acre field bordered by Moretonhampstead Road, Southbrook Lane and Monks Way.

It acknowledged the site was in open countryside and an Area of Great Landscape Value but argued it had once been earmarked for development in an old district plan.
