Visitors explored Teignmouth’s Eastcliff lookout on Sunday (September 21) at a National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) open day.
Teignmouth Mayor councillor Cate Williams opened the event, which marked ten years since the current lookout was built.
NCI Teignmouth is the ‘ears and eyes’ along the coast between Torbay and the Exe Estuary. If volunteers spot anybody in trouble, they initiate and coordinate a response alongside other agencies such as the RNLI, Coastguard, police, ambulance and border force. Over the past year, NCI Teignmouth has been involved in 12 incidents.

‘Visitors are welcome at any time but the open day gives an opportunity for members of the public to see what it is that we do and enjoy a cake thanks to the Teignmouth BakeHouse,’ said NCI Teignmouth station manager James Campbell.

NCI Teignmouth is staffed entirely by volunteers and funded by voluntary contributions.
