INDIVIDUALS and local organisations have sent more than 80 objections to Teignbridge Council regarding the siting of a 50ft high mobile phone at Seven Sisters, Dawlish.

Dawlish Town Council planning committee agreed in principle with plans from mobile phone service provider O2 when it met last month, but recommended the application's refusal as it felt the 50ft high structure was not in keeping with a 'local beauty spot'.

Chairman of the planning committee, Cllr Margaret Dickson, said at the time: 'It'll stand very high above the tree line, will be obtrusive and visible from everywhere in Dawlish. It should be refused on the grounds of having an undesirable effect on the landscape and being too close to residential properties.'

Cllr Mary Mugford said: 'We all have mobiles and if you've got one you need masts. I don't think it would be too obtrusive as it's only the width of a telegraph pole, but it's too high and should be sited further away from residential houses.'

The decision is now with Teignbridge Council Development control Committee, which will take the objections into account.
