DAWLISH has a proud history of its railway links, and a new one was forged at the weekend.

Train Play Devon took over the Strand Centre and laid down metres of track for children to play on. The company aims to help develop children’s communication and motor skills through the joy of playing with trains.

A spokesman said: ‘We provide the space, fill it with track and provide all the trains. All you have to do is bring your smiles.

‘Since our inception we have seen the amazing effect that playing with trains can have on a group of children.

‘They interact with each other and learn and develop basic social skills. We have also had very positive feedback from our SEN groups that have found our events to be hugely beneficial to their children.’

One youngster having a great time was Joe from Exmouth, who made friends with Thomas the Tank Engine.
