Mrs E B DUNBALL, of Western Road, Ashburton, writes:
On a recent visit to the recycling centre in Newton Abbot I had a heavy bundle of magazines of an awkward shape to deposit.
As I was struggling with it one of the men who deal with the arrival of the various articles came to help and managed, with considerable skill, to pack it into a trolley.
When I congratulated him on his handling of the problem he grinned and said: 'You see, the guys who work here are not as thick or stupid as you think we are.'
I was quite taken aback. If there really is anyone out there who believes that, I would just like to tell them they are mistaken.
Both the Newton Abbot and Buckfast centres are staffed by excellent people. They are full of practical common sense and good humour, always ready to see the funny side of their tasks.
The chaps who collect the rubbish at our house are also first class, kindly and intelligent in doing their job.
I have often wondered how Teignbridge manages to attract men of such calibre and keep them since there must be plenty of unpleasant aspects to their work.
Thank you, gentlemen. Far from being stupid you are the people we will not be able to do without, whatever the credit crunch does to the professions.
Keep up the good work; you are much appreciated.
