NEWTON Abbot Flower Club were delighted to welcome back Jenny York who brought her 'Out of Africa' demonstartion.
Jenny, who worked in the Diplomatic Service in South Africa, met the Queen and Prince Phillip, having organised a State Visit for them.
Working in Durban in 1992, Jenny was an observer for the first democratic vote in 1994, the arrangement for which was based in a wheelbarrow.
Jenny used a variety of bright coloured flowers to represent a 'rainbow nation'.
The wheelbarrows were used to bring the elderly and infirm to vote.
The Lions head design represented the State Visit of Queen Elizabeth II, and Prince Phillip.
Her final design was based in a rugby ball. For this the flowers used represented the different countries that took place: maple - Canada. Shamrock - Ireland. Iris - France. Lily - Italy. Thistle - Scotland. Chrysanthemum- Japan. Red rose - England. Mimosa- Australia. Leek - Wales. Silver fern - New Zealand, and finally a Protea for South Africa.
‘We cannot thank Jenny enough for her absolutely fantastic demonstration, and her humorous, interesting, and informative dialogue’, said Newton Abbot Flower Club’s Karen Jenks.
‘We have already booked her to return in 2027’, added Karen.
