FORMER Teignmouth mayor Cllr Vince Fusco has warned visitors to pack their own potties and loo paper if 17 district toilets earmarked for closure get the chop, writes Nigel Canham.

The veteran councillor offered the advice during a meeting at Forde House, Newton Abbot, on Tuesday.

The debate had been called after the authority's ruling Conservative executive last month revealed it could save £150,000 a year by shutting almost half its public conveniences.

Some members, led by Liberal Democrat leader Cllr Alan Connett, demanded the proposals be scrutinised for fear that communities could be robbed of vital services without proper consultation.
