LANDOWNER Co-op has agreed to change the name of a new shopping development to Kingsteignton Retail park.

Signs at the site, which had sparked anger when it was named Newton Abbot Retail park, are due to be changed in the next few days after a combined appeal from the mayor of Kingsteignton, Cllr Keith Howard, and the Mid-Devon Advertiser.

Cllr Howard welcomed the decision when we broke the news to him that the name would be changed.

He had sent a strongly-worded letter objecting to the development being named after a neighbouring town.

Now he says the campaign continues to urge other national retailers in Kingsteignton to stop describing themselves as Newton Abbot stores.
