Pumpkin and squash season is in full swing down at Shute Fruit and Produce and they will be bringing a large selection of these quirky vegetables to the Teignmouth Farmers’ Market this weekend.

Running from 10am to 2pm on the market is a chance to meet the farmers who bring an abundance of products to this popular monthly market. All produce comes from within a 30 mile radius of Teignmouth and is sold by the people that help produce it.

Lori Reich, co owner of Shute Fruit and Produce said: “ Everything we grow on our farm in Bishopsteignton is for Pick Your Own and we choose all our varieties of fruit and vegetables to be the best tasting ones we know, grown in harmony with nature, harvested at their peak. We’ve been on the local food scene for over 30 years as Shute Fruit and Produce, and before that it was David’s family dairy farm.”

“Many consider pumpkins and squashes as disposable Halloween decorations. To be honest, many from the supermarkets are grown for easy carving, not flavour. If you get one from us, you can do both: use it for decoration, then eat it afterwards.

“To help in the kitchen I’ve written a cookbook, Passionate about Pumpkins, Squashes and Courgettes, with recipes from around the world and through the seasons. Perfect for now, gifting for friends at Christmas, but also useful for summer courgette season.”

Lori will be handing out samples of Chocolate Pumpkin Truffles at the market as long as they last, made from the recipe in the book.

You might be surprised to learn that Harrods in London was interested in selling them at one point. Find Shute Fruit, Shillingford Organics with their squashes and the newest stallholder, made in Teignmouth Exeter Gin, and all the other farmers and producers at the market in the Teignmouth Triangle between 10 am and 2 pm.
