A pensioner is hoping to find a mystery couple who helped him out in Newton Abbot yesterday (January 6) so he can personally thank them for their generosity.
Tim Peat, who lives in Teignmouth, faced a half hour wait for his bus home after a trip to Newton Abbot yesterday morning. He decided to try and keep warm with a cup of tea. However, when he got to the café, he realised he didn’t have quite enough loose change to pay for it.
A couple who had seen the 80-year-old go into the café and come out empty-handed, offered him £1 so he could get his hot drink. ‘The man even asked me if I wanted something to eat,’ Mr Peat said.
After drinking his tea, as Mr Peat was queuing for his bus at around midday, the couple approached him again. This time, the man popped something into his pocket and told him he had dropped it in the café. When Mr Peat looked in his pocket, he discovered that the man had given him £10.
Mr Peat was overwhelmed by the mystery couple’s kindness and generosity. ‘I’m so thankful,’ he said. ‘They were real Good Samaritans. You don’t get many people like that about.’
He didn’t manage to get the names of the couple who helped him and he is hoping to track down the pair so he can get in contact and thank them personally. If anyone has any information about the couple who made this gentleman’s day, please contact the Mid-Devon Advertiser so we can put you in touch with him.
