ARTIST Jude Freeman has been inspired by the garden of a medieval farmhouse, and an exhibition of her work can be seen in Bovey Tracey.
From May 5 to July 2, art lovers can visit Hortus, a free exhibition at the Riverside Gallery.
Jude’s work reflects the ancient Teign Valley garden as it changes through the seasons, focusing on the flora and fauna in what Jude describes as a natural, ever-changing studio and observatory.
Drawing on records, maps and documents from the Devon Heritage Centre coupled with recollections of those who have lived and worked at the farm, Jude, a member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, has pieced together a continuing narrative. She says the exhibition offers an imaginative evocation of the garden from medieval times to the present day, reflecting its moods and seasons.
The Tudor theme continues with a special demonstration at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen arts centre. On Saturday, June 24. visitors are invited to step back to 1602 for instruction in the variety of plant
s used in the preparation of infusions and other healing salves by the Tudor Herbal Wives – Mistresses Elinor and Christina (pictured).
This free drop in event takes place between 11am and midday, and again at 1pm to 2pm.
