Justin Bidmead, of gladstone Place, Newton Abbot, has sent us a copy of his letter to Teignbridge Council's parking services:
Being an owner/occupier in Gladstone Place, I recently purchased two parking permits for Zone D (Gladstone Place).
After having my permit for over a month now and making me pay £40.00 for the privilege, please could you tell me why nobody seems to be policing this scheme.
Me and my wife work for a living as do many of my fellow neighbours. When we return home after our working day, we have nowhere to park our vehicles.
This is because at 5pm and weekends nobody polices the parking scheme.
A number of neighbours and shopkeepers who have not bothered to pay for a permit and are still using the old permits or no permits and are still parking in the zone D (Gladstone Place). I have had a permit for over a month now and in this time I have changed vehicles and applied and received a new permit.
Please answer the following questions:
l Why should I pay for a permit if they are not policed?
l If they are only policed Monday- Friday 9-5, why do I require one as I am at work?
l Why are residents' permits issued to people whose cars are not registered to Zone D addresses?
My neighbours and I have spoken with our local councillor and she is going to bring this up in the next council meeting.
I would like a reply from you within the next ten days answering my questions above. And not the standard 30 days.
This may seem such a small matter in the grand scheme of life, but it is infuriating not just for me but many of my fellow law abiding neighbours. It has been suggested that we purchase a residents clamp.
I look forward to hearing from you regarding this matter.MORE LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
