PETER Brittain, from?Kingsteignton, was the winner of Devon Freemasons' charity fly fishing competition. Mr Brittain's winning catch was a rainbow trout of 5lbs 5ozs. Runner-up was Simon Metters with a fish of 4lbs 3ozs. Held at Bellbrook Fishery, near Tiverton, in aid of the Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys, the event attracted a total of 28 anglers. The event was run by Chris Atwell, owner of Bellbrook Fishery, with competitors fishing a marked stretch for one hour before moving on to another at the sound of a klaxon. The competition was open to all – including novices and non-Masons – with equipment and coaching supplied by John Dawson, a qualified fly fishing coach. Derek Webber, of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Devonshire, presented Mr Brittain and Mr Metters with engraved hip flasks as mementos.
