QUALITY of life will be damaged for residents if supermarket giants Aldi get the go-ahead to build a new store in Newton Abbot it has been claimed.

The warning came from Cllr Mike Pilkington at a council meeting attended by two of the German retailer’s top dogs.

He complained: ‘I am disappointed the proposed site is outside the town and it will have an impact on residents.

‘We should be trying to get trade into the centre of town.’

He added: ‘It is bad for residents and the quality of life will be reduced for residents due to traffic.’

He aired his grievances at the meeting with Aldi’s property director for the south west Rob Jones and planning consultant Dan Templeton. Read the full story in this week’s paper, out now.
