A PUBLIC consultation to find out what residents think about a new ‘medium-sized town’ being built on the edge of Newton Abbot has ended.

The plans (pictured) up for scrutiny were for the Houghton Barton development which will see 1,800 homes built from Forches Cross to Seale-Hayne.

The development also includes a new 420-place school, community centre, high street, employment land and a road connecting the A382 and A383.

People had six weeks to express their views on the documents and their opinions will now be taken into consideration before a final framework plan is created.

The final document will then go before Teignbridge Council’s planning committee later in the year.

A spokesman for the district authority said: ‘The consultation on the NA1 Houghton Barton Draft Development Framework Plan attracted responses from individuals, organisations and agencies on a diverse range of subjects.

‘All issues raised during the consultation period will be carefully considered, and a summary of these together with comments on how they will be addressed will be published on the council’s website in due course.

‘It is anticipated that the amended final framework plan will be presented to the council’s planning committee later this year.’
