Sgt Jim Maye, deputising for Insp John Perry, told Tuesday's town council Finance and General Purposes meeting that a business case was being prepared for additional resources in the town to deal with late-night and drunken anti-social behaviour. Cllr Sylvia Russell voiced concerns about vandalism and petty crime. 'There's a view, which I'm sure is a misconception, that the police are very hesitant to deal with the miscreants. 'The public feel uneasy that if they report something, nothing will be done.' Cllr Battershill added that she knew of one person who reported a window being smashed by one youth. Though two policemen were nearby, they questioned the man about his details rather than apprehend the offender, she said. Sgt Maye urged any person with a complaint about the police to go into the police station. 'It will be dealt with by a senior officer and I am sure it would not be too hard to find out who these officers were and for an investigation to take place,' he said. The police, working with British Transport Police, this week apprehended a group of travelling youths believed to have been responsible for some of the graffiti in Teignmouth, including the subway below Higher Brook Street. It is thought that they recorded themselves committing the offence and downloaded it on to a home computer, said Sgt Maye.
