A POLICE officer is due to appear in court today, Monday, June 23, to face a charge of rape.

Sergeant James Rawlinson, aged 36, has been postal requisitioned in connection with one charge of rape of a woman aged 16 years or over.

It relates to a reported incident in Exeter in August 2018, while the officer was off duty.

The Devon & Cornwall Police officer is due to appear before Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday 23 June.

Sgt Rawlinson, who is based in Exeter, is currently suspended from duty.
