TEIGNMOUTH police have been caught red-handed parking on double yellow lines, writes Hannah Taylor. The photographs of a patrol car parked outside the police station in Carlton Place, are published a week after it was announced that the town will be without traffic wardens all this month. Teignmouth warden Allan Vizor is suspended from duty, while an inquiry is under way into an alleged assault on a motorist. His colleague, Debbie Say, is on sick leave. The photographs, taken last month, are evidence of a 'regular occurrence' said the resident, who did not want to be named. She said: 'The police patrol drivers must be quite pleased that we are without traffic wardens because they regularly park on double yellow lines in the vicinity of the police station. 'It causes inconvenience and has led to the vehicles being damaged,' she said. It has been reported to the police service desk, and while there is always an apology, 'the practice goes on to be repeated'. It is an embarrassment for the police, who last week said that Teignmouth would not become a free-for-all for motorists despite a lack of wardens. Police chiefs have stated that one of the reasons for the police station move to a station between the two towns of Teignmouth and Dawlish is to ease parking problems for patrol vehicles. No one at Teignmouth Police Station was available for comment.
