POLICE in Chudleigh are searching high and low for anyone who fancies becoming a special constable.

Officers are currently recruiting for the volunteer police officers who, once trained, have the same powers as a normal copper.

News of the drive for more specials was announced at Monday night’s Chudleigh Town Council meeting.

Former copper turned councillor Chris Webb said: ‘I think it is a great thing.

‘There is a push to get more specials because there is not one in this area.’

Special constables come from all walks of life and devote a minimum of four hours a week to their local police force.
