POLICE are probing an incident involving charity collection staff in Kingsteignton.

Four teenagers were approached by street collectors in Ley Lane on Tuesday evening and asked to subscribe to the national charity.

Police have confirmed they are investigating the circumstances of the incident during which the youngsters were asked for their bank details.

A spokesman said officers would be contacting the charity concerned about the nature of the methods used to persuade the youngsters, aged just 16, to sign up.

It’s understood the matter may relate to ‘overzealous’ canvassers rather than any fraudulent activity.

One of the youngsters’ mums has claimed the teenagers were asked to give false details about their age when signing up.

None of the youths signed any forms.
