BUSINESSES with alcohol licenses in Devon are being warned of scam calls demanding licensing fees.

Devon & Cornwall Police are asking for all alcohol licensed businesses to be wary of cold telephone calls asking for an alcohol licensing fee/overdue licence to be paid.

It comes as the force has been made aware of a shop in Devon receiving a scam call.

A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police said: ‘If you receive a similar call that you are not expecting, please hang up and check with the licensing department for your local council.

‘Please inform all staff of this and consider passing this information on to other similar businesses.

‘Please report scam calls to Report Fraud UK's Home for Reporting Cyber Crime & Fraud - Report Fraud or by calling 0300 123 2040’.
