DEVON for Europe campaign member Simon Chater journeyed to Westminster to lobby MPs to continue UK membership of the EU.
Simon, from Buckfastleigh, joined hundreds of attendees at the pro-EU conference organised by ‘Britain for Europe’ and other groups, where he heard speakers warn against a Brexit ‘no deal’ exit.
MP Dominic Grieve QC told attendees: “The most powerful force against a disastrous exit is the pressure of public opinion.”
MP Ben Bradshaw met the Devon campaigners outside the Houses of Parliament.
A spokesman for Devon for Europe said: “Ben was especially worried about the effects on Devon industry. In 2014, Exeter sent 70 per cent of its exports to the EU, and the South West as a whole has the highest percentage of exports to the EU, of all UK regions.”
Simon said “I, and all who went from Devon to London for the day, went for one reason only: we care deeply about the future of our country and feel that leaving the EU will cause immense damage. For all our sakes, and for our children too, Brexit must be stopped!”
