TEIGNMOUTH Town Council has welcomed three new councillors to the team following last night’s by-election.
Robert Phipps (Conservative) has been elected as councillor for Teignmouth East with 388 votes, beating rival Iain Leonard Palmer,who came second with 205 votes.
Other candidates who ran for the position were Malcolm Peter Williams (Lib-Dem) who received 191 votes, Peter Twigg (Independent) with 168 votes and Donald Mattock (Labour) with 118 votes.
The other two councillors who filled the spaces of the town’s Central Ward were Liberal Democrats Roy and Julie Phillips.
Most votes went to Julie with 451 and Roy was just one vote short of 400.
The other contenders for the Central Ward were Nicholas Maylam (Conservative) who picked up 355 votes, Miles Henderson (Conservative) with 326 votes, Ruth Warburton (Labour) with 128 votes and Malcolm Tipper (Labour) with 119 votes.
