LIGHTS, camera, action. Teignmouth Town Council meetings will soon be recorded and filmed, and could even be live streamed.
Town clerk Tracey Higgs told a meeting on Tuesday that they needed to get into the 21st century.
Recordings of meetings will be placed on the council website for viewing, and stored for 12 months.
Members broadly welcomed the new policy, and Cllr Jacqui Orme took the opportunity to take a swipe at press reporting of meetings, declaring that the media were ‘very adept’ at taking items out of context and giving a ‘completely misleading’ representation of what was actually meant.
Ms Higgs emphasised that although recordings could be used as a check on what was said at proceedings, the minutes of meetings were the only legal record.
