CONSERVATIVE councillor Phil Bullivant explained what it would mean to him if Teignbridge and the UK voted to remain in the European Union.

The district councillor for Newton Abbot Bradley ward said: ‘As a district we benefit from the support of the EU, we have historically had a lot of support from them and I think that will continue.

‘As a conservative looking at the issues, I see there are a lot of things wrong with the EU, a lot of things that we should be there helping to sort out.

‘I like the thought that my children and grandchildren have the freedom of movement.

‘We have got to realise that we are a small country part of a bigger trading zone,’ he added.

When asked how he would feel if we left the European Union he said: ‘There is so much uncertainty, no guarantee, we would be in for a turbulent time.

‘I want my grandchildren to be part of a European society who are happy to live together, work together, share each other’s countries and share all the strong benefits that the EU has.

‘That was the trigger for me to opt from out to in,’ he said.
