An unusual mix of creatures will be greeting visitors at the Dartmoor Pony Centre in Bovey Tracey tomorrow. (August 18)
As well as a moorland-bred Dartmoor pony mare and her foal the centre’s own ponies, including George and Smartie of Ten Tors fame, will be joined by a static display of birds of prey from Dartmoor Hawking.
A spokesperson for the centre said: ‘There’ll be a ‘name the foal’ competition and visitors will be able to watch Dartmoor pony training demonstrations, groom a pony, learn how to lead it – and adopt one of our wonderful adoption ponies.
‘Come and meet our trainers, volunteers and education team to find out more. We’re also keen to attract new volunteers.’
There’ll be information on the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust preservation work to keep the traditional Dartmoor pony on the moor and the centre’s work to help young people with a range of challenging behaviours, as well as plenty of refreshments available.
The event is at Parke in Bovey Tracey, from 11am to 3pm.
