ENTHUSIASTIC new committee members running the under-threat Kingsteignton Swimming Pool are just weeks away from reopening the 25m open air pool for the summer season.

Heroic fund-raising efforts have boosted the pool's poor finances and the £20,000 target needed to open the gates has been reached, organisers revealed.

New chairman Andy Holmes said: 'It is going to open, there's no doubt about it.

'We are now looking for lifeguards for the season.

'Fundraising is an ongoing process and we are working very hard.'

News of the opening comes after New Cross Rugby Club announced it was joining forces with the pool.

Next season the players will pay to use the Meadowcroft Road pool's changing rooms and showers.
