J WHITE, of Kingsteignton, chairman of KREAG, writes: I reply to the letter from an unnamed Kingsteignton mother, published in last week's edition of your newspaper, attacking KREAG, and I assume she means myself as the Labour activist orchestrating KREAG. I consider this an insult to my integrity and that of the KREAG committee which works hard to represent the concerns of Kingsteignton residents in relation to the proposed over-development. KREAG is strictly non-political and to suggest that we went to the Standards board to pillory Liberal Democrat councillors before next year's local elections beggars belief. KREAG is not interested in the political leanings of individual councillors, only their responsibility to fully represent their constituents, which we consider lacking since the proposed Urban Village was announced. Only parish Cllr Cole has had the courage to express his opinion in print. KREAG was quite in order to express concern to the Standards Board when three senior district councillors went to press stating they would fight the South West Regional Assembly proposal that 850 homes of the 1,800 proposed in the Local Development Framework should go to Alphington instead of Kingsteignton, and voted against this proposal, yet our own Kingsteignton district councillors have claimed they could not express an opinion on the Urban Village due to the Code of Conduct. Yes, the Standards Board rejected our referral, but it confirmed that there was no reason for any Kingsteignton councillor not to speak out on the proposed Kingsteignton development. Any apologising should come from the Kingsteignton councillors who seem to have had a 'vow of silence'. At the annual parish meeting, Cllr Morris announced it was now prepared to meet with KREAG to address the concerns of our members. We look forward to perhaps receiving some support from the parish council.
