Two of the district's primary schools have decided their futures lie together and have chosen to federate.
St Catherine's C of E, Heathfield, and St Michael's C of E, Kingsteignton, have enjoyed a partnership since last September, but governors at both sites have agreed to join forces on a more formal basis under the title of the United Schools Federation from April 27.
Their new motto, Aiming Higher, Achieving More, Together, reflects the hopes behind the move which has come about with the agreement of parents.
Executive headteacher Martin Harding told the Advertiser: 'A federation is a formal, legal partnership with one governing body made up of representatives of both school communities which is responsible for both schools.
