PUPILS at Ratcliffe School, Dawlish, are set to receive computer gaming equipment, after a £2,000 grant from the BT School's Award Scheme.

The scheme, set up by British Telecom, gives schools and communities an opportunity, if they display the right criteria, to gain £2,000 towards any project they might need some financial help with.

The money for Ratcliffe is to be spent on the latest computer gaming equipment and help teach the pupils about teamwork and cooperation.

Head teacher Cherie White said: 'As principal at Ratcliffe, I am pleased that we have received the sum of £2,000 from the scheme.

Janice Woodward, ICT coordinator, has worked incredibly hard to secure this award and will use the money to initiate an e-learning scheme that will include games, teamwork and the creation of a logo. Pupils will also have the opportunity to print their logo onto a

T-shirt and part of this work will involve the creation of a website.

'I feel this will enhance the already high standards of ICT skills alongside literacy and communication.'

Mrs Woodward said: I am really delighted that we got the money to do this and the pupils are all really excited about it. They will be having a lot of fun but will also be learning from this. It will teach them to work together.

'It will benefit everyone greatly and I am looking forward to getting started.'

The 2004/5 BT Awards will open on May 28, and again BT will be providing £2,000 for up to 240 citizenship and communication projects. For more information see the BT website.
