Lives could be saved thanks to an estimated £10,000 which will be spent on improving road safety on the A382 Bovey Tracey to Moretonhampstead section by 2008.
It was revealed that the cash would be spent on the road at a Devon County Executive meeting, when details of the Devon Local Transport Plan for 2007-2008 were discussed on Tuesday.
The A382 is known for its dangerous bends and between 2003 and 2005 there were 19 casualties on the road and some fatalities. County and Bovey Tracey town councillor Sally Morgan attended the meeting and was thrilled that safety on the road will improve.
'I think it is great for road users of the A382, especially those in Lustleigh, Bovey Tracey and Moretonhampstead,' she said. 'The money has not come a moment too soon and I am sure this news will be welcomed by the community. 'Some of the money will be spent on safety signs alerting users of black spots and lining the road. A road safety study has already been carried out and a motorcyclist was sent along the road with a camera identifying dangerous areas.
'It's been agreed the improvements will take place between 2007 and 2008 and these improvements will save lives.'
