A garden feature boasting a full-size replica canal complete with lock, narrow boat and towpath at the district's major out-of-town shopping and leisure complex can stay, planners said.

Also safe is a Roman-style building around an open courtyard.

The creations form part of the new £10.5million garden park at Trago Mills which opened last May amid celebrations hosted by celebrity gardener Diarmuid Gavin.

Boss Bruce Robertson won planning permission for the scheme after a long battle with Teignbridge Council.

But not long after the new centre opened he was told that the finished article differed slightly from the approved project.
