the multi-million pound redevelopment of the Passmore Edwards Centre, Newton Abbot, is now around half a year behind schedule.

The building – which will house a library, cafe, teaching facilities and more – was due to open its doors this autumn, but now the county council hopes to finish the revamp by Easter next year.

Originally it was thought the ambitious project would cost around £2.4 million.

The council later decided to improve its services for people with learning difficulties and invested a further £400,000 at the centre.

It is now believed the revamp will cost in the region of £3 million.

The building, which is more than 100 years old, has required some structural adjustments in order to correct a number of unforeseen abnormalities and make it safe for future use.
