A QUARRY extension plan by one of Teignbridge's biggest employers could benefit the local economy to the tune of £600 million in the next 40 years, it was revealed this week

Ashburton-based operator Glendinning has announced it wants to secure 240 jobs as its spends an estimated £1 million enlarging the Linhay Hill Quarry by some 100 acres.

The existing limestone site – which runs alongside the A38 Devon Expressway towards Caton and Alston – is nearing the end of its natural life with just 12 years to go.

Glendinning, with operations in Devon and Cornwall, disclosed its 'early-stage' plans at this week's meeting of Ashburton Town Council.

The application is likely to be submitted to Dartmoor planners next summer.
