Organisers of the Newton Abbot Community Transport Association have praised the Advertiser for highlighting the group's problem of ongoing vandalism.

They said the publicity had resulted in pledges of greater support from the police and local authorities.

Each year the service has to find £2,000 for repairs to vehicles at its Sherborne Road base.

Keith Walters, chairman of the trustees, was worried about its survival.

'We can't afford to keep losing this sort of money,' he said.

After our story on August 13 the association has learned improved security could be coming and that forensic tests might have identified one of the culprits responsible for a recent attack.
