Pupils at All Saints Primary School, Newton Abbot, desperately needs someone to come forward and apply to become a school crossing patrol warden to help them cross the busy road, The Avenue, safely.

The post has become available due to Jeff Brimicombe, who has been the lollipop man for the school for the last five years, leaving the post at the end of February.

'We really need someone to fill the vacancy as soon as possible. I have leafleted the homes of people who live near to the school and given leaflets to the school about the job, but so far no-one has come forward,' said Andrew Eagles, county council officer for school crossing patrols.

'People who apply have to have a CRB check, which takes a lot of time, so we need people to apply now. 'The traffic using The Avenue is busier than ever, so filling this vacancy is vital. 'We need someone who likes children, is patient and would like to serve the community.'

Headteacher, Susan Rowe-Jones said it is important the position is filled. 'We will really miss Jeff and it is sad that he is leaving. We want to find someone to replace him as soon as possible,' she said.

'Before I came to All Saints last month, I was at a school in Dartmouth where we had two ladies who did the job. When they go I am sure they will also find it hard to find replacements. 'The position would probably suit someone who has taken early retirement, who is able to work the time in the morning and afternoon.'
