A MOSAIC has been unveiled commemorating the 700th anniversary of Denbury village church.

The colourful mosaic is the work of children from Denbury Primary School which suggested creating the permanent memorial.

Thanks to a grant from arts charity The Helen Foundation and support from the village’s own fundraising though the Denbury May Fayre, the mosaic was created with the help of Daisi organisation artist Monica Shanta Brown.

She ran a two-day mosaic workshop with the youngsters, bringing together ideas from the children themselves.

Spokesman Rachel Belringer said: ‘It will stand in the churchyard, visible from the road for generations still to come to admire and remember.

‘The spirit of Denbury made visible.’

The same weekend also featured Denbury’s Midsummer Festival of Arts, Crafts and Music with an art exhibition and concert, both raising money for the church bell restoration fund.
