A 'zero carbon' farm in a redundant Newton Abbot quarry could be the first of its kind in England, the promoters have claimed.
Milber Estates Ltd has applied for permission to site three solar greenhouses, mobile homes and an office at the former Royal Aller Vale Quarry, Torquay Road.
It called the project a 'sustainable zero carbon farm with live/work farm worker residences integrated into a zero technology carbon capture project'.
The firm, operated by the Reed family who have farmed the quarry area for generations, wants to produce fruit, vegetables, salad and fish all year round using renewable energy and captured rainwater.
